During our operating years, we have had to increase our storage capacity due to an approximate 40% increase in the quantities sold, resulting in a total of 2k tons sold in our best year of consumption.
The biggest challenge of importing goods to Cape Verde is the timing between ordering from our suppliers and the arrival of the products on Cape Verde Islands and the subsequent delivery to our customers (time period of between one month and a month and a half).
This time lag, along with a lack of locally produced substitute products, and the fact that we are based in a country surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, requires strict requests for quantities and quality of imported products because there is only one way and there is no going back (due to the high export costs).
In order to maintain strict continuity of our products and their quality and value to our customers, it is necessary to order a higher stock than the pattern of consumption, even if this is stable, in order to avoid breakdowns in stock that is crucial to the operation of the establishments that trust us. Some additional costs over and above the actual product are:
· Port charges and freight services
· Cargo insurance and clearing charges
· Bank charges
· Charges of Cape Verde’s Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock
Although, the majority of our goods are unified and imported from Spain, our suppliers are spread all over the globe including within Cape Verde, namely the Island of São Vicente. We always try to give continuity to our products according to the preferences of all our customers in order to prioritize the quality of their operations. We thus have built a long-lasting relationship with our suppliers, reducing their number and maintaining a co-makership and taking advantage of synergies between supply chain management and quality management.
